Lumeto Welcomes Dr. Michael Francis to its Learning Advisory Board
Dr. Francis brings a breadth of nursing experience that spans clinical practice, professional development, health-system leadership, and academic nursing education. Most recently, he served as Director of Nursing Professional Development at UCSF Health’s Center for Nursing Excellence and Innovation, where his work focused on transforming nursing education and competency programs through innovative and inclusive approaches.
His work at UCSF placed him at the intersection of nursing practice, education, research, and innovation. He has been involved in initiatives ranging from nurse residency and transition-to-practice programs to competency development, evidence implementation, simulation, and new approaches to experiential learning.
Today, Dr. Francis brings that experience to the academic side of nursing education as the Associate Dean of Nursing at Los Medanos College, giving him a valuable perspective across the nursing learning journey, from preparing future nurses for practice to supporting the continued development of nurses once they enter the workforce.

As a member of Lumeto’s Learning Advisory Board, Dr. Francis will provide strategic guidance on how Lumeto can further strengthen its AI-enabled healthcare training and competency management platform, for nursing education and workforce training. His expertise will help inform areas including clinical readiness, competency development, simulation, transition to practice, and the use of scalable experiential learning across both academic and health-system settings.
The appointment comes as nursing programs and healthcare organizations look for new ways to give learners more opportunities for competency based education and training while making high-quality simulation and experiential learning available to more learners.
Dr. Francis’ experience developing innovative nursing education programs, including simulation-based learning and competency-focused professional development, will help Lumeto ensure that new capabilities are grounded in the realities educators, learners, and nursing leaders face every day.
