LUMETO’S IMMERSIVE LEARNING PLATFORM FOR HEALTHCARE TO BE DEPLOYED TO ALL ONTARIO COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
CONSORTIUM LED BY LAURENTIAN UNIVERSITY, LUMETO, GEORGIAN COLLEGE AND THE MICHENER INSTITUTE FOR EDUCATION AT UHN RECEIVES $1.1M ECAMPUS GRANT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A VIRTUAL REALITY HEALTHCARE TRAINING PROGRAM
JUNE 8TH 2021 (TORONTO, ON) – Lumeto, the Toronto-based immersive learning company deploying its learning platform Involve XR to frontline workers, today announces its health care training software has been selected to be administered to Universities and Colleges across Ontario.
eCampus Ontario has chosen a consortium led by Laurentian University, Lumeto, Georgian College and the Michener Institute of Education at UHN to receive $1.1 million in funding for the development of a nursing-focused virtual reality healthcare training program. The investment is among the largest amount awarded to any applicant for the eCampus Ontario VLS (virtual learning strategy) program.
The funding will see the consortium develop twelve virtual reality simulation training programs for Nursing (RN) and Respiratory Therapy (RT) students across Ontario, including scenarios focused on:
- Donning and Doffing PPE
- Patient Assessment
- Wound Management
- Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention (MSIP)
- Pediatric Airway Management
- Tracheostomy Care
- Management of a Deteriorating Patient / CPR
- Management of a Deteriorating Patient with Respiratory Distress / Protected CPR
- Mental Health De-escalation
- Advanced Airway Management – Intubation
- Hypovolemic Shock in Postoperative Patient
- Management of a Mechanically Ventilated Patient
The simulations, based on existing curriculums, will be developed to run on Lumeto’s Involve XR immersive learning platform which provides remote synchronous immersive learning (learners and instructors, regardless of location, can enter the same virtual environment for simulation training), a learning insights engine, advanced and interactive medical equipment and drug library, AI-driven virtual patients, and flexible “no-code” lesson creation. The twelve modules will be accessed via low-cost all-in-one VR headsets or via Involve XR’s flat-screen observer mode software.
“Involve XR is designed to bridge the gap between didactic learning and on-the-job experience for frontline workers, leading to better health and safety in our communities. The technology enables training scenarios that are flexible enough to be used across institutions with varying approaches to curriculum. We are excited that our advanced immersive learning platform has been chosen to help improve learning outcomes for health care professionals province-wide” Raja Khanna, CEO, Lumeto.
Lumeto is set to partner with Laurentian University’s Centre for Research in Occupational Safety and Health (CROSH), Laurentian University’s School of Nursing, Georgian College and The Michener Institute of Education at UHN for the initial development and deployment of the training programs, which will then be made available, at no cost, to all Ontario Colleges and Universities (including access to Lumeto’s Involve platform). Additional details to be announced at a later date.
